The Committee 2008/09

The committee are here to run your club, organise trips, organise socials, buy new kit etc. We will put minutes of every meeting online so you can see what we are up to. If you want to make a suggestion on anything to do with the club, please do not hesitate to do so. Your feedback, suggestions and ideas will help us to make this club even better. Don't forget that any club members are welcome to attend committee meetings to contribute or just listen; however they cannot vote to pass motions.

El President - Ben Lewis

Favourite things about paddling: The thrill of doing new rivers and challenging water!

Favourite river: The Ubaye from L'Fresquire down
Favourite paddling moment: Doing the Aberglasyn Gorge in big flood! Was quite a buzz!
Last swim (at time of writing): Slovenia this year, snapped paddles and a boat heading down "Syphon Gorge", fun fun!
Every been given the annual Fu*kwit award?: Nope
Biggest cockup: Spinning out my parents car on my way to Aber to visit the uni. Screwed up the tracking on the car and didn't tell my parents i'd done it as I wanted to drive to Pembroke the next day. They still don't know, so keep it to yourself!

Vice President - Andrew Coulthard

Nicknames: None really at uni. Colts when I'm at home up north.
Course: Physical Geography
Year: 2
Years paddling: I think its around 7
Boat(s): Yellow Pyranha S6
Kit: Red BA and helmet, Blue palm cag, Lendal paddle although I should probably get a new one and other stuff.
Favourite things about paddling: Its all good. Getting the adrenaline going down something, or just being on the water on a nice day. Also when you see that its raining, you can think about doing a river and everyone else that doesn't paddle is miserable.
Favourite river: The river Kent is fun.
Favourite paddling moment: Dunno. I've had loads of good moments paddling. Recently getting out of a nasty hole in Scotland was a great feeling, as I was shitting myself side surfing in it.
Favourite things about Aberystwyth: Lots of pubs. Its by the sea. What more could you ask for.
Last swim (at time of writing): Wish I had taken a swam in France or Slovenia so I could put up a good story of an impressive river. But it was on the Tryweren, at the cafe wave. That was a few years ago though. I remember clinging to the bank because I didn't want to be washed down the next part.
Ever been given the annual Fu*kwit award?: No. Maybe next year.
Biggest cockup: I cant think of anything major to write down. Sorry.
Local home spot: Chatburn pond, with the Calder as my nearest river. Teeside maybe as the nearest play spot.
Pre-paddling tunage: I've got a good range of tapes in my car. I listen usually to normal rock stuff, but sometimes you need some fun songs about dinosaurs before a river.
Other sports: I don't do much any more. I used to play rugby and cricket.

Biggest cockup: To pick one of many; Managing to get a £20 discount on my cag but getting a £60 speeding fine in the process of collecting it. I'm still bitter. Oh and revealing my age.

Biggest cockup: Seeing what happened when you put the contrast right down on our first family PC. It was chucked out about a month later. This is the first I mentioned it Thank God it was free!

Pre-paddling tunage: Don't mind...so long as it isn't crap. (Now 38?)
Other sports: Drinking. A bit of rugby and mountain biking, up for most things really.

Favourite paddling moment: Doing the River Soca in Slovenia and having a complete day doing up to Grade four without any swims, just lots of rolls.
Favourite things about Aberystwyth: The drinking and location
Last swim (at time of writing): On the Tryweryn at a Grade 4 fall (Bala Mill) got pinned against a rock, rolled sideways into a hole.

Years paddling: 5, I think?
Boat(s): Liquid Logic Lil Joe (Josef) and a Riot Disco soon to be swapped for a Jackson Allstar!
Kit: Lots! Mainly Palm Kit, but my Sweet Rocker in Lime Green is the best thing though and my Damex cag and trousers cos they take so much abuse.
Favourite things about paddling: Ermm... It's just great! It involves water which means it's gonna be good and it's just all-round fun!
Favourite River: The Soca, Slovenia
Favourite paddling moment: In the Alps when I realised that rivers aren't as scary as I thought they were, which just resulted in me chucking myself down the slalom course on my own.
Favourite things about Aberystwyth: Everyone is soooo nice and there's loads of great pubs, plus it's Wales which means lots of good rivers. It's also not very big which I like cos I'm a proper country lass.
Last swim (at time of writing): On the Soĉa thinking I could boof, and I really couldn't!
Ever been given the annual Fu*kwit award?: Nope, and never intend too.
Biggest cockup: It's more an embarrassing moment then a cockup and I am no way mentioning it on here!

Year: 5/5 No i didn't fail a year.
Years paddling: 5 but i stated with my dad when i was 8 i just stopped for 7 years.
Boat(s): Lets get stated:
- My surf boat is my favourite its a Mega X-Ray, its purple and swirly, LOVE the surf.
- Next is my Eskimo Salto in all its orange and dark orange gory... i mean glory. Its ugly but it loves the waterfalls and i love it.
- My play boat: A liquid logic POP, its old scratched to hell and keeps breaking but a good playboat and i have seen them going for as little as £150, Bargain.
-I have an old rotobat and a dancer (old school) in my shed too.
Kit: Many Cags all leek, Lotus buoyancy aid, Robson paddles, Happy 2B Skook helmet with home made go faster stripes. Other gear lots of gear. and a dry suite, cant believe i nearly forgot that... and an ambulance.
Favourite things about paddling: When you fu*ing nail it! you were scared, but now you can take on the world!
Favourite things about Aberystwyth: The kayaking club
Last swim (at time of writing):Nottingham (HPP) june 2006 it had been a long day, i was tired. i wound up in the magic roundabout.

Biggest cockup: Crashing my brothers car while pushing backwards from the door way. big rock, door faces wrong way after. told him 4 moths later by phone.

Biggest cockup: Where to start! Crashing Ants Ambulance, getting stuck in a waterfall and crying for mountain rescue, crashing my car into Rick's, Throwline issues, Seal launching off a rock into 6 inches of water and breaking my boat... will that do?
